Where Taylor’s style team has always exceeded in my opinion is sourcing interesting and unique jewelry for styling. To match a unique and edgy ensemble, you need accessories that come up to the same level. I love seeing this brief glimpse at this sharp design that complements the structured shoulders of the jumpsuit.

Alexandre Vauthier Spring 2023 Couture
I’m personally always going to advocate for experimental looks in fashion. Or should I say FASHUN. Taylor has had moments over the course of her career where she’s stepped outside her norm to play and to try something on that is unexpected, but interesting. That is the beauty of fashion – in the play. And Alexandre Vauthier is an excellent designer to select for a look that’s alluring and fashion-forward. As this jumpsuit from the SS2023 Couture runway is.
It’s in Taylor’s lane from a wattage standpoint, but unexpected in terms of edge and silhouette. Taylor is typically agnostic to trends but it’s fun to see her flirt with the in-vogue hooded style, especially as we’ve seen her wear a few capes now across multiple music videos (“willow”, “Bejeweled”). Under the stage lights, the dark sequins look magnetic and Midnights-appropriate to me. Dark, complicated, moody – but with an undeniable starry shimmer.
I completely understand why she skipped the red carpet (fresh off a tour weekend I don’t blame her), but I have a feeling perhaps some minds would be changed on this look if seen packaged in a power stance on the red carpet. Part of styling of a look is not just in the fit of the garment and the accessories chosen to complement it – but also in the context and the physical embodiment of selling the look. This moment was mostly seen from the angle of Taylor seated, behind a podium, or posing to the side in friendly hugs with peers backstage. None of which I think put this sequinned jumpsuit in the best light – pun intended.
In terms of actual styling, the straight hair was the right call to coincide with the allover sleek and sharp outline of the jumpsuit. But a graphic liner or a smoked out eye and stronger lip I think could have leaned more into the futuristic edgy energy presented.
All in, I am always going to support any look that elicits varied responses and emotions. That is what makes fashion interesting and, for me at least, keeps me around.

Brandy Melville ‘Veena Sweater’ – no longer available
This sweater was quite the blast from the past – I love continuing to see it in rotation in her closet. We last saw the burgundy version December 2019.
Since 2015, Taylor has worn this sweater in: black, green, gray, and a New York emblazoned version.

Zuhair Murad Couture custom
Swapping out her other glittery bodysuit, Taylor must have been under the Vegas influence when it came to certain accessories last night. This take on the Midnights bodysuit has a lot of similarities – same colour family, spangly embellishments, and richly beaded fringe.
As is a lot of things when it comes to Taylor’s fashion, an accessory is often more than just an accessory and is also often more than just one thing at once. While garter belts are a mainstay in burlesque performance costuming, this particular version veers closer to those seen most often in Western wedding traditions. It makes me think about the decision to wear something so intricately tied up in marital practices worn during a song about refusing to dress up in ways to fill roles expected of her, forging her own path towards karmic retribution, and biding time until a man gets what’s coming to them.
But oh to be in a position to commission a custom midnight blue crystal garter (also by ZM). As if “Vigilante Shit” weren’t saucy enough.

Alberta Ferretti custom
Splitting the difference between her two previous Alberta Ferretti dresses, this chantilly lace confection combines the saturated mauve from Glendale 1 with the split sleeve cape-like detail of Glendale 2 into this dusty rose chiffon gown for Las Vegas 1. The lace detailing here feels antique and old world in the best way while the light fabric feels just ethereal and lovely – so fitting of folklore.

I can almost imagine that once opening night was over and Taylor was getting a feel for the physicality of the show she felt confident enough to start accessorizing 😉

If you follow the TSSQ blog then you know I have an ongoing tag dedicated to me live reacting to Taylor in green. Needless to say that tag was popping off yesterday when Taylor swapped out her original pink co-ord set for the 1989 section of her setlist for this gree(eeeeeeeeeeee)n one. And matching booties, natch.
I don’t think I need to elaborate further that this set is my clear favourite between the two.
Doesn’t she just look like the happiest string bean in green?
