Extremely smart publicity, in my opinion. Taylor is a savvy businesswoman and I honestly don’t think that “IKWYT” is about Harry (though I do think, similar to “White Horse”, it’s a song that was written about somebody else but became relevant as she was promoting the album). But I do think that Taylor knows what she’s doing when it comes to PR.
And the fact that Harry was there probably influenced her speech enough to stir up a little discussion/attention about her songs and her album.
And even if none of that is true, it isn’t out of the norm anyway for Taylor to say something along those lines (“If boys don’t want me to write bad songs about them, they shouldn’t do bad things.” – Forever & Always).
Even MORE additionally, it’s not an out-of-the-norm comment anyway? How many times have people said “Thanks to the bullies out there because, without them, I wouldn’t be here.” Or something to that effect. So many celebrities have been all “”sassy”” and thanked their haters for fuelling them emotionally and isolating them enough that it came out in their work, which made them famous.
The only thing “controversial” about what Taylor Swift said is the fact that she is Taylor Swift and apparently anything she says is worthy of a death threat.
