David Koma ‘Plexi and Crystal Embroidery Polo Dress’ – $4,534.00

The polo look has been an ongoing motif for the Midnights era thus far. Mostly appearing on long sleeved knit sweaters or sometimes short sleeved ones in retro patterns. Here, the collared look gets a bedazzled upgrade for an awards night outing.

While the MTV Awards are typically a laidback affair I think this could also have served well for a late night talk show appearance. The updo also makes much more sense here so as not to compete with the collar of her dress.

Giuseppe Zanotti ‘Lilibeth Slingback Stiletto Sandals’ – $581.00

While I’ll never fault a pair of minimal black sandals, I think there was opportunity here to tie into the green(!!!) jewels on the bodice and skirt of this dress with a fun emerald colour pop.

David Koma Fall 2022

My very first instinct was how very inspired this look feels from her “Bejeweled” music video moment. The black bodysuit-like base with an overlay of fabulous jewels inspired by the Koma AW2022 runway.

Voluminous waves or a low sleek pony I think would have made for a more svelte hair moment.

But the most important thing here, of course – if you’re TSS-minded is the fact that the red jewels inspired from the original runway have been instead rendered in a stunning emerald green. A win for TSS!

Aquazzura ‘So Vera Crystal Embellished Sandals’ – $1,350.00 $539.99

If you know anything about me it’s that I am a sucker for an ankle strap sandal so I happily approve of this crystal embellished option to finish out the altogether sleek, sexy, and chic styling for this outing.

Michael Kors ‘Embellished One Sleeve Cutout Gown’ – $7,990.00

Taylor has worn many sequinned gowns over the years. She has, in fact, even worn many black sequinned garments. In my predictions post for this event, most of my guesses centered on a more ‘business bitch’ bent on what is very much a signature Taylor lewk. Not only to reflect the gravity of the honour she was being bestowed with (Songwriter of the Decade) but also to grasp a sense of familiarity of her recognizable style (sparkles!) just with a more serious edge. 

I love how the midi length here conveys a sense of maturity and composure, without going over-the-top dress-code wise (this isn’t the Oscars) like a full-length gown would. The slit and the cut out keeps things svelte and a little sexy, but the professional length and additional coverage from the asymmetrical long sleeve provide a nice balance that reign the lewk in from going overboard. 

I also appreciate the overall styling here with the low, sleek pony. While a kicky high, voluminous pony would have bumped up the ‘fun’ factor, I think keeping it low and simple and clean complements the overall sharpness and modern tones of the dress. Kohl-rimmed eyes and her signature red lip make this instantly Taylor, but also a little vampy and sexy. 

All in all an excellent outing in my opinion. What did you think?

I’m appreciative and grateful for Pat McGrath’s beauty work on Taylor last night – and for posting all. the. deets! It’s so fun to be able to have insight into the exact details of Taylor’s beauty lewks.

As I’ve had a moment to process and go over close up photos, my thoughts on beauty styling are the jewels are awesome choices (especially those earrings) and I generally love the makeup and glow.

But I do wish that in order to commit to the retro vibes and provide a cleaner finish around her forehead that her bangs were styled in finger curls and perhaps paring down the crystal appliques to a single one (or 2-3) at each corner of her eyes to further emphasize her signature cat eyeliner. That or instead of black liner, a fun silver glitter liner.
