Hill House Home ‘The Scallop Lace June Nap Top’ – $125.00
Hill House Home ‘The Scallop Lace Delphine Nap Skirt’ – $175.00

If Taylor is in this area attending the event she’s rumoured to be (a very close friend’s wedding) then this is incredibly chic wedding guest attire. She looks just lovely and also doesn’t it feel wildly long overdue to see her in something from the cult fave ‘Nap’ collection from Hill House?

“Karma” music video | May 26, 2023

Paco Rabanne custom (pictured similar)

The ‘Lightbulb’ and ‘Hourglass’ scenes gave me the most to think about in the music video as it relates to Taylor’s relationship with fame and the longevity of her career. What I love most about this video is the striking and intentional visuals. They’re simple, but grab you.

This Paco Rabanne two piece appears custom, but a similar version of it walked the Fall 2023 runway. The makeup, hair, and excess of gold actually remind me of a 2011 CoverGirl ad she once was in – anyone else remember that one? I do love the sleeved runway version but going sleeveless was totally the right call functionally for the demands of the scene.

There’s a contrast here in portraying herself as a light source (very “Dear Reader” of her) and speaking to her innate ability to continue shining amidst darkness and struggles – while also portraying herself burning out from the efforts to shine as brightly as she can, as long as she can.

Out and about | New York City, NY | May 24, 2023

Ralph Lauren ‘Eyelet Linen Bustier’ – $248.00
Ralph Lauren ‘Eyelet Linen Midi Skirt’ – $498.00

Looking like a breezy breath of fresh air in eyelet linen. The matching set for Taylor has become synonymous with the 1989 era as that’s the time period when she really leaned in to the power and convenience of a co-ordinating crop top and skirt. The noticeable shifts here to present day include a longer length of skirt (her past self would have opted for a flippy skater-style mini) and minimalist flats (a teetering pair of 6” heels would have been her previous M.O. accessory).

I also love the choice of the sleek pony which contributes to the overall feeling of ‘freshness’.

The Eras Tour | 1989 section | Version 2

If you follow the TSSQ blog then you know I have an ongoing tag dedicated to me live reacting to Taylor in green. Needless to say that tag was popping off yesterday when Taylor swapped out her original pink co-ord set for the 1989 section of her setlist for this gree(eeeeeeeeeeee)n one. And matching booties, natch.

I don’t think I need to elaborate further that this set is my clear favourite between the two.

Doesn’t she just look like the happiest string bean in green?

Another moment where a throwback to previous style was going to be an easy win. There’s nothing like a matching crop top and skirt with sparkle booties to evoke the 1989 Tour. Fausto Puglisi did an incredible job with the unique diamond-shaped Swarovski work here.

65th Annual Grammy Awards | Los Angeles, CA | February 5, 2023

Roberto Cavalli custom

Rather than look backward and pay homage to RED and its TV in honour of her SOTY nomination for “All Too Well (10 Minute Version)”, Taylor went with a more Midnights-appropriate look at the Grammys.

This midnight navy colour is beautiful on Taylor – a hue she rarely wears. Combined with the starry night embellishments, the looks feels appropriate to the late night theme of Midnights. I think I could envision this as a gown with side cut outs and a slit – or with a completely open back. With the current silhouette, the reference to the co-ordinating sets and crop tops of the 1989 era immediately came to my mind.

I would have loved to have seen the hood (as pictured in the original Fausto Puglisi-designed sketch) but am not mad by its omission to instead commit to a high wattage, statement earring moment. Continuing to prove that styling can really make or break a look.

The slightly mussed, twisted bun was a nice way to counterbalance all the sharp lines of the ensemble. See those strong shoulders, the geometric earrings, the horizontal slice of her torso. An updo was definitely needed with that high neck but it was a great choice to give a little looseness and her makeup was so well-coordinated to the rest of the look.

“Bejeweled” music video | October 25, 2022

Michael Schmidt Studios custom ensemble

Inspired by designer Erté, Michael Schmidt Studios created a custom burlesque ensemble for Taylor in the “Bejeweled” video. The designer was introduced to the concept by one of the video’s stars – Dita Von Teese, naturally. The design house once famously created a 3D-printed dress for Dita back in 2013.

Performing with Haim | London, England | July 21, 2022

Louis Vuitton ‘Lingerie Inspired Cropped Tank Top’ – $875.00 (sold out)

Gosh! How much have I missed her? For real. It was so good to see Taylor up on stage again after so many years away. And also so fun to see her take to someone else’s stage and with significantly less pressure for her own setlist.

Now before we jump on the TS10 bandwagon I want to remind people that Taylor has an excellent history of being a good sport and adopting a friend’s on-stage aesthetic to #commit to the performance. See: Fifth Harmony on the 1989 Tour.

Especially because Haim are Louis Vuitton ambassadors and their tour looks were custom designed by LV.
