2014 Met Costume Institute Gala | May 5, 2014

Oscar de la Renta custom gown

As revealed earlier today by Taylor herself on Twitter, she stepped out onto the red carpet wearing a custom pink gown featuring allover embellishments by Oscar de la Renta.

While the front featured a simple a-line silhouette, the real drama came from the dress’ long, sculptured train.

As with many of the gowns from tonight, I feel a little letdown by the dress. Taylor looks lovely, as usual, and I like the glossy but textured waves of her hair, her glowing, dewy skin and the way the bodice creates a deep cut in the back. However, this won’t go down as one of my favourite looks from her.

I’m at least glad to see Meredith didn’t rip it to shreds during the final fitting.

Update (Feb. 15): You can actually purchase an unembellished version of Taylor’s gown via My Theresa here for $8645.

Worn with: Lorraine Schwartz jewelry, Edie Parker clutch and Christian Louboutin pumps

Oscar de la Renta ‘Short Sleeve Tromp L’Oeil Dress’ – $2590.00

Taylor’s chic, business-like attire comes courtesy of OdlR’s latest spring collection. I’ll admit the runway styling is far sleeker than Taylor’s, but the addition of her platform oxfords, skinnier belt and pops of red make this office look more streetstyle-ready.

Worn with: J. Mendel bag and Yves Saint Laurent oxford pumps

The Weinstein Company Academy Award Party | March 1, 2014

Oscar de la Renta ‘Long Sleeve Lace Cocktail Dress’ – no longer available

Déja vu, much? Taylor made an appearance at the Weinstein Company pre-party for the Academy Awards that are set to air tonight in all-too familiar looking dress.

Worn with: Lorraine Schwartz jewelryChristian Louboutin clutch and Jimmy Choo sandals

You can shop a similar style for under $80 + read my thoughts by clicking through:

If you had a weird sense of “been there, done that” it may be because this OdlR lace dress bears a striking similarity to this Maria Lucia Hohan dress Taylor wore to the Grammy nominations concert in 2012 as well as this Dolce & Gabbana dress she wore to the One Chance press conference. Coincidentally, One Chance is the film that introduced Taylor into The Weinstein Company in the first place as her song “Sweeter Than Fiction” was a single for the movie.

I actually really like the dres itself. The directional, alternating diagonal panels is a fresher, more contemporary take on a classic piece like a lace dress.

I am, however, confused by the styling. A red lip/mani/pedi, a blush satin clutch and green earrings? They’re all pretty individually, but I’m not a fan of them all styled together. Perhaps if she had nixed the nail polish and red lip it would make more sense to me because I think that’s what’s throwing me off.

Oscar de la Renta Spring 2010

Casual cool. Dressed all in white – as was the apparent theme of the shoot, styled by Joe Zee – Taylor wore a look straight from the OdlR spring runway. Texture-hemmed shorts and a matching lacey, shoulder-ruffle blouse were both offset by a Patricia Underwood braided fedora.

Check out the rest of Taylor’s photo spread in Elle here.
