Ralph Lauren ‘Cotton Utility Jacket’ – $698.00

Over the years, Taylor’s been known to quietly take home items from magazine photoshoots. A pair of chunky Vetements boots from her Vogue 2016 spread, a cognac leather Mark Cross bag when she posed for Glamour in 2012.

So am I really surprised that we were Easter Egged on the eve of 1989 (Taylor’s Version) when Taylor was spotted out in NYC wearing this corduroy collared jacket by RL and come to find it’s the same one from one of the trio of covers via Time declaring her their Person of the Year?

No. No I am not.

Ralph Lauren Collection ‘Cadie Cotton Piqué Vest’ – $1,290.00

Again, the usage here of a designer like Ralph Lauren is intriguing to me as it’s one Taylor has worn a lot over the years but she’s had a few notable outings wearing RL this year alone.

Including a field jacket in October on the eve of 1989 (Taylor’s Version)’s release, a corduroy at her very first Arrowhead Stadium game, and a few bags while popping in and out of her favourite NYC studio. It’s a brand that feels quite aligned with the Miss Americana of it all so it’s cool to see it presented here in a great middle ground of RLfashion which I’ve always seen as embodying a utilitarian, timeless Americana energy.

Ralph Lauren Collection ‘Tuxedo Jacket’ – $2,490.00

I love the combination here of polished three-piece tuxedo suiting with casual denim jeans.

By my eye, it appears Taylor might be wearing a cropped version of this RL Collection jacket.

Ralph Lauren ‘Corduroy Collar Cotton Field Jacket’ – $762.00

If I were to have picked a piece of outerwear by any brand to complement the equestrian energy of this ‘fit, it would have been Ralph Lauren – so I’m delighted that this toffee coloured field jacket is a Polo by RL piece.

I’ll also say that while previously the two tone mix of browns sans coats wasn’t entirely sold on me that now with the addition of a third brown shade that the mixture now feels more ‘complete’ and robust – like a true, intentional fall-leaning palette.

Ralph Lauren ‘Corduroy Cap’ – $69.50

I’m kind of into the way the ribbing on the corduroy of this cap interplays with the textured ribbing of her tank top. Plus how the dark logo pops off the brown field of the cap to tie into the rest of the colour palette of this ‘fit.

Ralph Lauren ‘Top Handle Bag’ – $1,800.00 (similar)

RL is one of those long-standing brands Taylor has loved and worn a lot over the years – including their apparel. She’s owned and loved tons of their cable knit sweaters and worn enviable wool coats or items with their signature Americana equestrian touches over the years. But it’s their bags that she’s turned to most often – I know I have fond memories of the brown leather saddle bags she so favoured in 2011-2012.

Here, Taylor appears to carry a similar cross body version of a bag retailing as part of the brand’s current RL Collection Summer 2023 line. You’ll note that her version doesn’t have a top handle detail and also has some lovely gold hardware shoulder strap attachments rather than the more subtle under-flap construction of the one currently retailing.

Ralph Lauren ‘Calfskin Welington Shoulder Bag’ – $1,690.00

Taylor has worn and loved many a Ralph Lauren cognac brown saddle bag over the years. This new ‘Welington’ style is a more oblong one to her collection and coordinates nicely in a sandwich styling moment with the brown tone of her sandals.
