Taylor Swift Style – Prom Inspiration

With prom season right around the corner, a lot of you have been asking me for some prom inspiration. Rather than a simple ask response, I figured this deserved a post of its own.

Here are some styles exuded by the queen of sparkly and embellished dresses herself:

image

1. Short & Sweet

Taylor wears: Alice + Olivia / Elie Saab / Jovani / Naeem Khan

If you’re not the type of person to wear a full-length ballgown to prom, or maybe you’re an underclassmen attending prom with an older date and want to save a longer dress for your own senior prom then these short, sweet and sassy styles may be for you.

Short hemlines scream ‘fun’ and – take it from someone who’s been to prom – they’re so much easier to dance in. These styles are definitely for someone who just wants a lighthearted, relaxed night out. Bump up the carefree aspect of these shorter hemlines with quirky heels, bright accessories and an easy updo.

2. Grecian Gorgeous

Taylor wears: Elie Saab / J. Mendel / Maria Lucia Hohan / Emilio Pucci

This is the type of dress I wore to my own prom. Free-flowing, figure-flattering and softly elegant. The Grecian gown generally consists of an empire-waist (cinched near or closer to the bust) and a cascading chiffon skirt that floats over your lower torso. If you’re a pear-shape (like me!) with a smaller bust and a wider hip-thigh area and you want to highlight the smallest part of you and look sweetly feminine at the same time then a Grecian gown like these ones Taylor has worn in the past may be for you.

If soft whites/creams scream too bridal for you, go for a bolder colour like red for something equally as flattering but much vibrant and less saccharine. A simple headband or even a braided hairstyle would perfectly suit the minimalist nature of the Grecian gown.

3. Perfectly Princess

Taylor wears: Reem Acra / Reem Acra / Reem Acra / Marchesa

And for the classic prom look – the princess ballgown. If you want to forego the even more traditional prom look consisting of shiny heavy fabrics, taffeta and pickups then huge skirts and princess embellishments are the way to go.

Go all out with elaborate updos, jewelry and sparkly heels to complete the full princess look.

I think the fashion trend that will never go out of style and gets chic-er every year – it’s sort of an Audrey Hepburn look with black cigarette pants, black flats, black turtleneck. I don’t think anyone’s ever going to walk into a party wearing that and people are going to go ‘Oh my god that is soo stupid.’ I hope it never goes out of style. Because I’m always going to wear it.

Taylor Swift Style – Reformation candid predictions

French Connection, ModCloth, Anthropologie and Free People. What do these brands have in common? Taylor Swift went through phases for each of these stores where she near-exclusively wore pieces from them. Now, she’s turned to vintage-inspired and eco-friendly recycling brand Reformation. So far, we’ve seen Taylor wear skirts (x, x) and dresses (x, x) from the brand.

Here’s a few of my predictions.

  • Primrose Dress – $198.00
    – If Taylor wanted to start wearing more schoolgirl inspired outfits (totally okay by me!) then this sexy bodycon/long-sleeve dress (a favourite silhouette of Taylor’s) would be the perfect choice. Check out that deep v-neck (another fave neckline for Taylor).
  • Dani Dress – $198.00
    – Taylor loves her prints. Among her favourites are stripes and polka dots. The mini length, floaty a-line and innate feminine quality of this dress would suit Taylor perfectly.
  • Ibiza Dress – $98.00
    – Another easy choice. Featured in a familiar silhouette to Taylor, she wore a similar striped dress last year so we know it’s a look that works for her.
  • Cambridge Dress – $218.00
    – This pick was just for me as I think the lace, the colour and the open back would look sultry and sexy on Taylor’s tall frame.

What do you think TSS-ers? Are there any other Reformation items you could see Taylor in? Or has her love for the brand already been transferred somewhere else?

Taylor Swift Style – 2014 Grammys

With a week to go until the Grammys (airing Sunday, January 26) I thought long and hard about my gown predictions. Historically, Taylor has always worn full-length gowns to this event. And with her up for the most prestigious award of the night (Album of the Year) it’s undoubted she’ll wear anything but a gown.

You can see all the times Taylor has attended this event here.

  • Naeem Khan Pre-Fall 2014
    – If Taylor is going to insist on wearing red continuously to award shows (despite my protests), this Naeem Khan gown with intricate laser cutouts (which recalls this Giles gown her friend Dianna Agron wore to the 2012 Golden Globes) and sheer panel at the bust combines several of Taylor’s loves into one dress. Bonus points? If you look carefully at the details near the hemline the dress incorporates a beautiful rose pattern.
My previous prediction to hint at an upcoming floral-inspired album didn’t hit the mark. But I think this combines both the RED and the rumoured Roses theme quite well.
  • Zuhair Murad Spring 2014
    – Taylor has not been shy for her love of cutouts and Zuhair Murad. I believe this gown would be the perfect send off to the RED era as this should be the last awards ceremony Taylor attends where she is nominated for her work from this album. The elegant neckline and swirled sleeves create a bit more elegance than the sleeveless red Naeem gown.
  • Armani Privé Fall 2013 Couture
    – The dark horse prediction. Now hear me out. Even though Taylor has never worn Armani Privé on the red carpet and I can already hear some of you telling me how this gown would wash her out, check out the equally blonde, blue-eyed and fair-skinned Claire Danes and Eva Riccobono pull off similar gowns from this same collection. Considering the importance of this night for Taylor – she has likely been anticipating an Album of the Year nomination for RED since its release in 2012 – it would be wonderful if she would consider amping up the elegance and glamour by selecting a couture gown.
Besides. The allover floral pattern, the illusion neckline and the soft, feminine silhouette of this gown could add up to be the jolt of maturity and grace that Taylor’s red carpet style could evolve into.
  • Elie Saab Fall 2013 Couture
    – Do I actually think Taylor will wear this s-t-u-n-n-i-n-g (and my favourite from the collection) emerald green Elie Saab gown? No. But it’s green. It’s couture. It’s not overly sparkly. It is everything I have ever wished for Taylor to put on her body. A girl can dream.

What do you think, TSS-ers? Are any of my picks possible? Have any of your own? Or do you think Taylor will surprise us all in something completely different?

— Simply stunning. Taylor chose a mature Gucci Premiere silver column gown for the 2014 Grammys.
