Taylor Swift Style – 2018 Gift Guide + A Request

Long-requested for … listen let’s not disclose for how long. Just that it has been for TOO LONG. But it is here. The time is NOW.

I’ve taken the time to round up some of Taylor’s favourites in fashion and beauty for yourself or the Swiftie in your life (mostly) for under $200

These are a collection of brands Taylor has loved over the past eras (yes, I’ve broken them down by era, so you can easily shop your ~aesthetic) or has included in her Swiftmas boxes from way back in 2014 (and yes you’re all still asking about them).

Consider this my gift to you TSS-ers. Happy Holidays!

Note: You may need to disable adblocker to view on desktop. For mobile devices, use your web browser app of choice.

Note 2.0: The below post uses affiliate links. A lot of ‘em. It took approximately 3 days of work to pull the post together through brand research, widget curating, and graphic development, and I truly hope it’s of use to all of you. That said, if you click on any of the links below I will receive a small commission. Just thought ya should know. Thank you for supporting Taylor Swift Style!

Note 3.0: Speaking of support. I mentioned my potential for doing this on the questions blog a few months ago, but thought while I was fulfilling a long-time request of TSS-ers, it would be an appropriate time to ask for one of mine to be filled by you.
If you have supported Taylor Swift Style for any length of time over the last seven years, in any format, I want to say thank you. And I also, humbly, want to ask a favour. If you feel strongly about TSS, to consider donating to my GoFundMe as an effort to crowdsource funds to assist in a huge change to Taylor Swift Style — its domain. Over, officially, to taylorswiftstyle.com.

I hope you’ll consider it, but appreciate your eyeballs and time whether they’re given here on the blog, on TSSQ, on Instagram, on Twitter, or anywhere. Thank you! If you would like to donate, please check out the official GoFundMe here.

Now on with what you came here for.

  • Charlotte Russe bustier floral mini dress ($22) – A very similar little number to the string of Rebecca Taylor and Amy Claire floral minis Taylor wore during this time.
  • Modcloth retro heels ($69) – Taylor graduated from her cowgirl boots and ballet flats to heels in the Fearless era. Not nearly as tall in height as she would eventually go on to wear, but her first foray into truly owning her tallness (and also perhaps an ode to the spillover into pop music she was experiencing with the success of pop/country crossover “Love Story”).
  • Ralph Lauren ruffle trim blazer ($185) – This was also Taylor’s likeliest era to wear schoolgirl-inspired outfits. Think blazers with cute feminine details such as the ruffles on this piece by Ralph Lauren paired with mini skirts and opaque tights or argyle socks.
  • Ralph Lauren embroidered button down oxford shirt ($90) – Military details like the crest on this button down (which happens to be a mens but would work perfectly well if you size down) were also frequenters in Tay’s wardrobe during Fearless.
  • Anthropologie slouchy tote bag ($88) – Before moving on to more structured bags by the likes of Dolce & Gabbana, Taylor loved a slouchy bag in dark-toned or fun leathers (brown, black, teal, mustard) with bohemian details such as fringe.

  • Forever 21 crop top and skirt set ($39) – Easily the defining style of the 1989 Era. First debuted in this marled pink number in July 2014 — just a few months before 1989 dropped.
  • Urban Outfitters printed romper ($39) – Taylor also had many adorable romper moments this era in fun prints like floral and check.
  • Anthropologie hair pins ($18) – Taylor has always been a fan of girly hair accessories, whether a headband, floral moment, or high shine hair pins like these.
  • Pared cat eye sunglasses ($125) – Though she always has, Taylor expanded from her signature Wayfarer silhouette to a more cat eye look.
  • Roberto Cavalli blush bag ($399) – Sometimes a really beautiful bag is worth the splurge. Taylor carried around a soft nude/blush-toned bag by Tods for a lot of the 1989 Era. The good news is that this soft colour would work with most any outfit — maximum wear for the price.
  • Steve Madden platform heels ($45) – Taylor of course favoured 6″ Louboutins during this time, but you can get the same teetering skyscraper effect in these platforms.

SWIFTMAS

By far the most requested thing I have ever been requested since things have been requested. A round up of all the items that Taylor included in her Famous Swiftmas Boxes of 2014. All in one convenient place. Plus a few extras from the past era.

Merry Christmas, TSS-ers. ❤

TAYLOR SWIFT STYLE – 2018 AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS

It feels like it’s been this side of an eternity since I made a predictions post, so forgive me if I’m rusty. I also definitely feel heading into tomorrow’s ceremony that we’re going in rather blind. Taylor’s style has been a bit all over the place (sometimes urban and distressed, sometimes rainbows and embellishment, sometimes head-to-toe Madewell).

While Taylor’s performance is completely confirmed, I’m also suspicious that she may skip the red carpet entirely. Both in order to prepare for her show opening performance and also because Taylor has been very red carpet-shy all era and avoiding the red carpet would mean only her performance would speak for her that night (i.e. “There will be no explanation …”)

With that said, here are my choices. Which certainly reflect that all over nature and unpredictability (I hope) that Taylor’s fashion has been. Here we go!

  • Off White Spring 2019
If this outfit were to be worn by Taylor, I would see a different blazer but in a similar silhouette. The stand out here, obviously, are the snake skin pants. This is also one instance where I wouldn’t mind seeing the runway styling replicated. Those shoes are killer. But these Giuseppe Zanotti snake ankle wrap heels wouldn’t be remiss either. I also only last minute noticed the model (pure coincidence) when I made this select. But a happy accident that it’s Tay’s friend Karlie Kloss.
  • Elie Saab Spring 2019
I typically avoid including Elie Saab in my predictions posts, though I know the brand is a fan favourite to see Taylor wear. With that, though, I couldn’t help but see how this colourful and bold striped gown by Elie Saab echoes the various rainbow patterns she’s worn throughout this era. While of course black, green, distressing, and snake print are all prominent themes in Taylor’s wardrobe for reputation I love that we have bright rainbow patterns that counteract all that darkness. On Taylor’s huge night and a major return to the awards circuit, what better way to make that mark than with a burst of colour?
  • Valentino Fall 2018 Couture
The entire inspiration for this look is the line: “They’re burning all the witches … so light me up”. The colour, the lines, the mermaid silhouette — Taylor would look like an elegant, raging fireball in this gown. A very dramatic burnt orange/terracotta and eyeliner cat eye would be a great way to style this look.
  • Brandon Maxwell Fall 2018
Because I can’t resist a cape moment. This look is elegance and maturity personified. I feel it will nicely compliment what I’m sure will be a black, glittering custom performance piece by Jessica Jones that Taylor will likely wear.

For fun, these were my back ups: Alexis Mabille Fall 2018 Couture lace jumpsuit, Miu Miu Spring 2019 leather coat dress, Rosie Assoulin Fall 2018 cut out flounce gown.

Which of my predictions is your favourite? Do you have any picks of your own?

TAYLOR SWIFT STYLE – REPUTATION TOUR

Ashish Spring 2018

  • ENCORE
  • Look What You Made Me Do

To cap off the show, how beyond perfect would this Ashish set be? The brand has been favoured by Taylor as of late, the sequins are stage-ready, the subtle differentiations in the fabric are almost snakelike, the silhouette and borrowed-from-menswear-runways is an ongoing reputation trend — and the R.I.P. on the breast pocket? Because she’s dead, of course.

So what do you think of my reputation tour choices? Any faves? Any other ideas?

TAYLOR SWIFT STYLE – REPUTATION TOUR

Gucci Spring 2018

  • FINALE
  • This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things

Did you really think I’d pull together a reputation tour costumes prediction series and not include a snake Gucci moment?

Of course, Taylor would not wear the matching crushed velvet joggers (or would she) but I can imagine this borderline comedic and extremely brash ultraviolet Gucci blazer would be the perfect complement to a song as purposefully obnoxious as “TIWWCHNT.”

TAYLOR SWIFT STYLE – REPUTATION TOUR

Versace Fall 2017

  • INTERLUDE
  • You’re Not Sorry

Though I’m not quite sure how this would pan out, whether on piano, or as a simple pre-recorded video interlude that Taylor has playing in between acts while she prepares for the big finales (coming up ;). But I can’t shake this idea of having “You’re Not Sorry” remixed somehow into the reputation setlist. Made somehow harder, techno — similar to the CSI treatment when it was remixed for Taylor’s guest appearance on the show back in the day.

The vibes of this song and the subject matter of atonement somehow seems very fitting to the themes of reputation as an album.

And also I wanted an excuse to include a glimmering, copper Versace moment which when placed under the spotlights I’m sure would make Taylor look like a shining, fiery snake.
