Vintage ‘Kansas City Chiefs Sweatshirt’ – no longer available

My best guess is this appears to be yet another vintage piece of KC merchandise for Taylor – a similar one pictured here in red. For me, this tactic is fun to see Taylor’s longtime love of vintage fashion (dating back even to 2010-2012) evolve into a way that she can express her recent love of sports (*wink*) while also shopping more sustainably – and often from small businesses.

A few weeks ago, Taylor reportedly purchased a few thousands of dollars worth of vintage Chiefs pieces from this local KC retailer. I had been wondering just when the home game would come for her to finally break out one of their pieces and it turns out it’s todays against the Bills.

As I suspected it would (I posted a predictions post for Game Day Fashion to the TSS Patreon) – Taylor’s home game style has continued to rely on a base of black with some Chiefs merch as the main piece.

Taylor’s love of Gant’s outerwear continues – this time in an oversized shearling jacket that’s a spin on a classic aviator style and feels very cozy wintery and stands as a nice proportional contrast to her (repeat) Miu Miu skirt we previously saw her wear while on a date with Travis in Argentina when one of her shows was rained out and postponed. Taylor also owns this particular mini in another plaid check print.

One thing that I feel like Taylor does often is create interesting, unexpected, colour palettes with her outfits. It’s something she’s done for a long time that feels very classically ‘her’. If it were me, I would have done a sandwich style moment and opted either for the same camel tone as her Saint Laurent bag in both her carry item and boots or perhaps even both a dark chocolate brown to tie into the piping on her Gant jacket. As-is, her ‘ruby’ Reformation boots create a colour (albeit Christmas-y) contrast.

Ralph Lauren Collection ‘Cadie Cotton Piqué Vest’ – $1,290.00

Again, the usage here of a designer like Ralph Lauren is intriguing to me as it’s one Taylor has worn a lot over the years but she’s had a few notable outings wearing RL this year alone.

Including a field jacket in October on the eve of 1989 (Taylor’s Version)’s release, a corduroy at her very first Arrowhead Stadium game, and a few bags while popping in and out of her favourite NYC studio. It’s a brand that feels quite aligned with the Miss Americana of it all so it’s cool to see it presented here in a great middle ground of RLfashion which I’ve always seen as embodying a utilitarian, timeless Americana energy.

Time 2023 Person of the Year | December 6, 2023

Bardot ‘Roll Neck Knit Bodysuit’ – $69.00

I think we have all collectively lived so many lives within the Swiftieverse in the year 2023. This year has given us so much.

But the greatest gift of all? The editorial photoshoot debut of one Benji Button.

Onto the fashion! Given the high leg cut and pairing with shiny black tights, this look gives me very Madonna vibes. In other photos of her in this simple ribbed bodysuit, we see Taylor flexing her arms – to me a callout to the Eras Tour choreography for “The Man” and of course embodying her power and femininity.

I love that the shoot’s team worked together to give a look that’s pared back and a play on ballet femininity and strength (styled by Heidi Bivens) while also providing references to some of Taylor’s most iconic beauty signatures like tousled curls (by Holli Smith) that feel closer to the natural texture of her debut era, and a bold red lip (by Diane Kendal).

Rachel Antonoff ‘Rainbow Cookie Sweater’ – $295.00

To celebrate “You’re Losing Me” finally being added to streaming, co-writer and co-producer Jack Antonoff shared a new (old) personal photo of Taylor.

She happens to be wearing a charming sweater featuring a rainbow cookie that’s designed by Jack’s sister – Rachel Antonoff.

This feels like a moment a very long time in the making to see Taylor wear one of her designs. To see it come to life captured in what’s clearly a very personal home moment ahead of writing one of her most vulnerable songs feels all sorts of soft.

Gant ‘G Pattern Collar Sweater’ – $200.00 $87.00

Perhaps it’s the combination of the colour palette of this collared sweater paired with wide leg pants but this feels like a throwback to the 70s energy first established in the early days of promotion during the Midnights era. There’s something modern Daisy Jones about it.

I think a pair of wide leg pants a bit more fitted through the waist and hip would have created a more balanced shape for the entire ‘fit. But I do appreciate the autumnal tonal vibes consistent throughout the ensemble.

In terms of creating a consistent fashion story, Taylor’s last two times wearing Gant were as part of significant outings with Travis (the SNL after party #hardlaunch and Chiefs v Jets game). Worth mentioning as we head into yet another KC Chiefs game weekend.

Taylor’s continued M.O. for Chiefs home games has been cute casual and centered on comfortable Chiefs merch. This pairing of a cozy sweatshirt and pleated skirt feel very much in her wheelhouse and something we’d see her wear a variation (less football-ified) version of as a street style candid outfit.
