Free People ‘Melanie Tank’ – $58.00

After a string of candid outfits featuring a heavy dose of neutrals, I love this shot of summery colour that’s a little sweet thanks to the ruffles and a little flirty thanks to the bustier-inspired silhouette. Oh and a little sporty from the strappy detailing on the back.

When paired with a kicky ponytail and some schoolgirl-esque trendy loafer slingbacks, this outfit leans trendy and youthful which is fun – especially when paired with layers of chunky, gold jewelry.

AGOLDE ‘Maria Bodysuit’ – $120.00

This feels like a very classic and easy to replicate summer ‘fit for just about anyone. A tie dye bodysuit or top into a pair of denim cut offs plus some comfy sneakers.

In terms of colour story, I’m picking up the interplay between her bodysuit and bag.

Those braids are also too sweet.

Worn with: Elizabeth & James bag and Adidas x Ivy Park sneakers

Dôen ‘Henri Top in Salt Eyelet’ – $288.00

Tonally, I appreciate everything that’s going on here. White eyelet is such a crisp and natural go-to for summer, especially when paired with any blue denim piece.

But there’s something proportionally a bit – dare I say – frumpy and fussy about this ‘fit. Perhaps between the ruffles, the drape of the asymmetric hem and tie waist, and the clunk of the oxford mary janes there is just … a lot going on at the moment. Something a little sleeker had to give, imo (though perhaps that’s what she was going for with her hair). My suggestion would have been a higher-waisted bottom and a tuck of this blouse.

The Row ‘Sisca Shirt’ – $1,817.00

As a personal lover of stripes, this crisp button down really speaks to me. I like how the cooler-toned stripes here correlate neatly with the blue chambray-like quality of her skort.

Vintage Philadelphia Eagles sweatshirt
Chris Stapleton ‘Green 47 Hat’ – $30.00
Catbird NYC x Phoebe Bridgers ‘Kissing Skull Friend Charm Set’ – $130.00
Adidas x Ivy Park ‘Savage V4 Sneakers’ – $125.00 (sold out)

Taylor was spotted out in New York appearing to be low-key and sporting some of her most charming personal interests as fashion in one very Princess Diana athleisure-driven outfit.

A Philly Eagles sweatshirt denoting her lifelong love of the team and her home state (and a certain lyric in “gold rush”), a Chris Stapleton (fanmade) hat as reference to his guest vocals on “IBYTAM” (and perhaps beyond?), and a friendship necklace from Eras Tour opener Phoebe Bridgers’ collaborative collection with New York-based jeweller Catbird NYC (a collection we already know she’s worn and loved).

“Karma” music video | May 26, 2023

Paco Rabanne custom (pictured similar)

The ‘Lightbulb’ and ‘Hourglass’ scenes gave me the most to think about in the music video as it relates to Taylor’s relationship with fame and the longevity of her career. What I love most about this video is the striking and intentional visuals. They’re simple, but grab you.

This Paco Rabanne two piece appears custom, but a similar version of it walked the Fall 2023 runway. The makeup, hair, and excess of gold actually remind me of a 2011 CoverGirl ad she once was in – anyone else remember that one? I do love the sleeved runway version but going sleeveless was totally the right call functionally for the demands of the scene.

There’s a contrast here in portraying herself as a light source (very “Dear Reader” of her) and speaking to her innate ability to continue shining amidst darkness and struggles – while also portraying herself burning out from the efforts to shine as brightly as she can, as long as she can.

Versace ‘Embellished Harness Top’ (similar)

Beyond the eye-grabbing visuals of the video and some of the camp and cheek, there also feels like a lot to emotionally unpack here (in particular, this ‘Hourglass’ section and the ‘Lightbulb’ section). Taylor has spoken on numerous occasions about the passage of time and what it means for her and her place in the industry as a ‘geriatric’ pop star. One need not look further than “Nothing New” to see for how long she’s harboured deep thoughts and anxieties about her relevancy in the industry and longevity in her career.

Here, it’s fascinating to think not just from the ‘karmic’ perspective of time always coming back around (for her benefit) but also to think about time slipping away from her while also experiencing one of the greatest highs (yet) in her work.

Ralph Lauren ‘Eyelet Linen Bustier’ – $248.00
Ralph Lauren ‘Eyelet Linen Midi Skirt’ – $498.00

Looking like a breezy breath of fresh air in eyelet linen. The matching set for Taylor has become synonymous with the 1989 era as that’s the time period when she really leaned in to the power and convenience of a co-ordinating crop top and skirt. The noticeable shifts here to present day include a longer length of skirt (her past self would have opted for a flippy skater-style mini) and minimalist flats (a teetering pair of 6” heels would have been her previous M.O. accessory).

I also love the choice of the sleek pony which contributes to the overall feeling of ‘freshness’.
