I’ll be on a quick little jaunt to the Gulf Islands this week for some much-deserved beach and quiet island town time. While I will have cell service and be available to message in the evening, I may be slow to post or respond as I prioritize downtime.

Also known as the TSS Lover Lyric Analysis. To celebrate one year of Lover, I give to my Patreon subscribers this 58 page document. It details my thoughts on every song off Lover, a now-and-then look of my rankings of each song, a detailed line-by-line analysis of the songs’ lyrics, and my re-ordered tracklist.
All composed in – I’ll say it again – FIFTY EIGHT stunningly designed pages.

While I believe it goes without saying, I’ll repeat here as well:
If you believe that art has value then you believe that artists and creators should be compensated for their time and their efforts. This lyric analysis took a true genuine year to write and is the embodiment of hours spent writing late into the night during that very first listen of the album one whole year ago today, multiple weeks worth of typings since then, and even dictating sudden thoughts that came to me into my phone through my bluetooth while singing “Cruel Summer” while whipping down a sunny highway. I poured all that I have into these thoughts to encourage discussion, conversation, and thought for an album that deserves it. If you are a subscriber, please ensure that this work stays within the hands of fellow subscribers and isn’t disseminated. Not just out of respect for my time and energy but for the graphic designer whose time I also paid for to craft something to beautifully complement the words I’ve written.

As I’m sure you’ve all seen by now, we woke up to a brave new TS8 world where that TS8 album is dropping like a folksy Americana bomb on our lives in a mere 12 hours. That album’s name is folklore. Nice of Taylor to wait to announce the album cover, title, tracklist, photoshoot, concept, and merch until I had at least returned to cell service. What a gem that Taylor.
Given the absolute surprising nature of this all and the backup of Lover content that I still had planned (including the Lover Fest predictions which I had so studiously queued up to be posted tomorrow and the TSS Lover Lyric Analysis [I hired a graphic designer for the art concept!]) I hope you’ll all indulge me for at least a bit longer to love and appreciate and enjoy that content (and that album) even amidst what I’m tentatively calling The Album Aesthetic I Have Waited Six Years For.
So today will be about welcoming what folklore is (and all those beautiful new images) but also about thinking back on all that Lover was and gave us.
