TAYLOR SWIFT STYLE – REPUTATION TOUR

Phillipp Plein Spring 2018

  • … Ready For It
  • I Did Something Bad
  • Bad Blood

To open the tour, I can envision Taylor kicking it off in this fun studded leather jacket, some hot pants, and hopefully a killer pair of over-the-knee boots. I’d love if she could bring back her saucy Secret Sessions style to kick off her setlist.

TAYLOR SWIFT STYLE – REPUTATION TOUR

Every time Taylor’s impending tour kickoff date comes around, I get asked for my predictions for her tour outfits. Given how quiet things have been lately, I thought I’d turn it into an entire series and break down not only my setlist prediction but the outfits I think will be paired with it.

Of course, as always, these predictions posts are just for fun. While it’s more than likely that Taylor’s tour costumes will consist of custom-made pieces, it’s always fun to dream up what she could theoretically wear on stage.

And with that … are you ready for it?

TAYLOR SWIFT STYLE – 2018 GRAMMYS

Though I sadly have a lot of doubts about Taylor showing up to the ceremony on Sunday, I didn’t want to deprive us all of the chance to at least dream about what she would wear to music’s biggest award show.

You’ll notice a strong, recurring theme here amongst my choices: black. I had an inclination to include my favourite colour on her (green) to represent her symbolic embrace of the snake. But I thought we’d go simple black this time.

  • Gucci Spring 2018
Because what would a prediction post in the reputation era be without a reference to Gucci — a brand she’s been loving lately. This gown has the drama, the sparkle, and the upper torso coverage silhouette that Taylor has been favouring lately (oversized hoodies, short hemlines). I’d think she’d remove the fluttery high-necked collar and hopefully wear a serpentine-like pair of wraparound heels. Possibly in blood red or green.
  • Monse Spring 2018
An unorthodox choice. But I think the swagger, oversized silhouettes, and odd gathering that’s generally present in Monse collections would greatly appeal to Taylor’s latest aesthetic. All this look needs is slicked back hair, a berry lip, and maybe some fierce booties.
  • Schiaparelli Spring 2018 Couture
There’s really nothing about this look that you would ordinarily associate with Taylor — and I think that’s the point. Her style has never been more unrecognizable, more unexpected than at this era in her life. If paired with knee-high boots this would be like a metallic, couture version of her reputation Secret Sessions looks
  • Jean Paul Gaultier Spring 2018 Couture
I considered a lot of different variations of this look — a fierce black suit. Including ones by Mugler, Paco Rabanne, and Versace. I ultimately chose this one by JPG for its fringe (a textural detail Taylor has been liking lately) as well as for its fairly conservative silhouette.

Who do you think Taylor will wear tomorrow? Do you think she’ll show?

Taylor Swift Style – 2017 MTV VMAs

We’ve come full circle. The last time I did a predictions post was for the 2016 MTV VMAs — and here we are a full year later with a new single, new album, and a new music video on the horizon.

It’s still uncertain if Taylor herself is actually going to show up to the awards ceremony tomorrow or if she’s going to let the “Look What You Made Me Do” music video premiere stand on its own without her presence. Either way, I thought you guys would appreciate the return of this series after such a long drought.

With what we’ve seen so far from the Reputation album photoshoot my best guess is that there will be a lot of black from Taylor in the future. I’ve reflected that in my choices here.

Here we go!

  • Mugler Fall 2017
Is it a dress? Is it a suit with a blazer? It’s both, folks. Just the right amount of skin, daring, and fashion-forwardness for Taylor to break out of her shell into a new more edgy era.
  • Atelier Versace Fall 2017 Couture
This may not look like it falls in line with the all black memo I called for above, but if you take a closer look at the outfit, you’ll notice the almost reptilian-looking effect of the sequins on these pants — a subtle nod to the snake videos that Taylor used to kick off this era.
  • Alexandre Vauthier Fall 2017 Couture
Because nothing says edgy like a full-on leather dress.  I’d love to see this paired with spiky booties and no tights, of course.
  • Jean Paule Gaultier Fall 2017 Couture
The black sheep amongst a selection of otherwise black dresses. I think with the hint of a bodysuit/hot pants situation underneath and the vibrant, blood red colour of the dress that this could totally fit in with Taylor’s new, fierce persona.

My runners-up: Rochas, Roberto Cavalli, Olivier Theyskens, and Givenchy

Do you have a favourite of my choices? Or do you have an outfit you’d love to see her wear tomorrow?

Taylor Swift Style – 2016 MTV VMAs

Taylor in all likelihood will not be attending tonight’s ceremony for the MTV VMAs, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have some fashion fun and guess what she could have worn as if she was!

Given that this is a summer music awards show, I thought that colourful, short, and slightly risqué was the perfect route to take. Given Taylor’s track record at this event, something a little less-than-expected wouldn’t entirely be unexpected 😉

Let’s break it down!

  • Fausto Puglisi Fall 2016
I could easily see Taylor styling this with the runway’s edgy leather booties, but my preferred styling would be a yellow or aqua pair of strappy, knee-high lace up heels and a metallic starfish or sea-themed clutch would make this a fun look.
  • David Koma Resort 2017
If you’ve been following TSS for awhile, in addition to green being my favourite colour on Taylor, generally I’m always a sucker for a blonde wearing yellow or orange. Being a personal fan of the David Koma brand, and considering Taylor’s penchant for crop tops, this would be a great blend of citrus-y colour and Taylor’s lately favoured silhouette (though done in a slightly more sophisticated way). I’d love a dark, allover glittery charcoal eye, lightly glossy peach lips and open toe booties with this look for a fun-but-edgy twist.
  • DSquared2 Resort 2017
Lose the sexy/sporty lace-up heels, unzip the dress and add brown accessories and this look would read more fun, casual and sporty instead of the try-hard vamped up vibe present in the lookbook.
  • Emilio Pucci Resort 2017
If ever there was a time that Taylor would wear a look like this, it would be now. Vibrant, sexy, and perfect for a summer awards show. Minus the shredded blue headpiece, of course. Just add a coral lip and some orange SW ‘Nudists’ and call this look a day.

Some of my favourite backups included this feathery mini by Sass & Bide, this chic blue jumpsuit by Paule Ka, and these two Zimmermann Resort looks which I dropped because I could easily see Taylor rock them as candid looks in New York or L.A. in the summer.

Again, as Taylor will likely not be attending this is all in good fun. Which of my choices do you like best or is there a designer/trend you’ve always wanted to see Taylor try for this awards show?
