Urban Outfitters ‘Pleated Taffeta Bustier’ – no longer available

While out and about with Caitlin Evanson – her fiddle player – so many years ago in Australia Taylor wore this adorable floral outfit. I love outfits like this that incorporate spring-like aspects (bright colours like red and florals) but turning them into fall/cold weather-suitable with anchoring darks like black tights and a black top.

This pleated bustier from UO adds a perfect sexy edge to her girly outfit.

Taylor has also worn this bustier in white.

Worn with: Urban Outfitters skirt, Anthropologie mary-janes and Hobo International bag

Urban Outfitters ‘Cooperative High Waisted Denim Shortie’ – no longer available

Worn with: Free People hat, Ray-Ban wayfarers, MiH Jeans cardigan, Dolce & Gabbana bag and Frye boots

Check out the multiple times Taylor has worn these shorts here.

I think it’s refreshing to see Taylor mix up her candid style from the tried-and-true silhouettes and dresses she’s usually stuck with over the last few years. But looking at this outfit I can’t help but feel like it was missing something.

It’s definitely a start in an interesting new sartorial direction for Taylor but something felt off with the colour palette, for me. Perhaps if the boots were a dark grey or even a cranberry to match the cardigan. Or if the shorts had been patterned to break up all the colour blocking with something more eye-catching and interesting to create a center piece for the rest of the outfit. Or even if her cotton tee had been replaced by a silky dark grey tank instead to make the look a bit sleeker.
