Versace ‘Greca Goddess Mini Shoulder Bag’ – $1,525.00

One thing I can appreciate is the consistent use of gold hardware throughout this ‘fit to draw the eye from the top to the bottom of the ensemble. Starting with that lovely golden shadow through to her stacked golden chains, the hardware on this Versace bag, and coordinating chains on her Stella McCartney boots.

Versace ‘Greca Goldtone & Crystal Necklace’ – $1,295.00

With each new iteration of Taylor’s Versace bodysuits to kick off the Eras Tour, she takes the time to accessorize with a coordinating necklace – all also by Versace to coordinate.

I loved how these crystals coordinate beautifully with the tones in V4 of the bodysuit.

Welcome back to the Eras Tour! After a two-ish month break, Taylor picked up where the US/Mexico dates of the Eras Tour left off at the end of the summer with a rousing first of three shows in Buenos Aires, Argentina – and with it, new costuming!

I’ve mentioned previously that while I suspect the Eras Tour setlist will remain largely the same on all international legs of this tour, that one is never safe from outfit variations. On past tours, Taylor has introduced new versions all throughout the length of a tour.

This particular bodysuit is Version 4 of her opening costuming – and is quite possibly the best (or at least top two for me). This version feels very, “Hi Barbie!” in the very best way. I love the pink shades here that are a great nod to Lover candy coated sunset colouring while still also feeling rich and dramatic.

There’s also a certain wonderful power and confidence in wearing a vivid pink sparkly blazer Elle Woods and Barbie would be proud of to perform “The Man”.

Versace ‘Medusa Detail Corset’ – $1,750.00

Taylor’s second corset/bustier moment in the last week. I personally love the combination of something more inherently sensual and feminine combined with menswear and tailoring. To me it exudes a level of comfort and confidence and ease that’s powerful and admirable.

The gold strap detailing also is a great tie in to her latest approach to more is more with gold jewelry – tones of that also layered her throughout the outfit to create a consistent level of shine throughout.

The iconic Medusa motif is one signature to Versace, present as one of the house’s most key design pieces. It’s inclusion here is a double whammy reference to the Eras Tour, where Versace opens her concert looks, and also continues to underline a story of feminine reclamation, strength, and power.

And, well, the snake backstory of it all is a bit on the nose isn’t it.

Worn with: Maria Tash earrings, Gant coat, Mazin Jewels necklace, Aupen bag, and Greymer sandals

Cartier ‘Agrafe Herringbone Twisted Necklace’ – $27,250.00
Versace ‘Greca Goddess Medium Leather Top-Handle Bag’ – $2,650.00
Christian Louboutin ‘Pumppie Botta Leather Knee-High Boots’ – $1,795.00

Watching people excel in their given field is always a pleasure and a joy to watch. It’s how I feel seeing Taylor dancing with abandon at awards shows or singing to sold out stadiums of 70,000 people. But it’s also how I feel when I see her step out in fall attire in NYC. What a thrill! She’s always had a special knack for layers and colour palettes, but Taylor really does kill fall dressing. So much so that this latest string of outfits has been a consistent, “Yes I will copy + paste that onto my body” response from me. I’m just a sucker for a good piece of outerwear and an outfit dominated by black.

Speaking of black, two notes on her black accessories here.

Choice of brand is always something that comes to my mind, even when we see Taylor out and about in her daily life. Seeing her wear Versace immediately brings to my mind not only the recent memories of her outing at the MTV VMAs just last week (in classic black and gold Versace) but also me of Versace’s top tier placement in the Eras Tour setlist as part of her opening set. It’s subtle, of course, but I can see how even that simple evocation over into her street style would be a great way to keep top of mind her huge award show sweep and that she’ll be back on her record-breaking global stadium tour in less than two months. The bag itself has such a dreamy shape – love the curves.

The boots, on the other hand, immediately had me do a double take because they are incredibly similar to the ‘Babel’ Louboutins she would wear so often in her early years. Given Taylor’s propensity lately for going back into her clothing archives, that really would have given me a shock. But no, this pair differs by a slightly different heel and a side zip.

Versace custom gown (pictured similar)

As is her way, Taylor can only be consistently expected to do one thing: subvert expectations. Swiftly (some might say) bypassing an opportunity to plug any of the three albums she’s either released, or is on the precipice of releasing, she went straight to a very reputation-coded Versace gown. The likes of famed supermodel lore or legendary Liz Hurley status. It’s sexy, it’s slinky, it’s very distinctively signature Versace – using Medusa-embossed buttons in a pseudo snap closure style instead of the more overt safety pin (this detail continues on the strappy open criss-cross back all the way down the back to the end of her train, which is worth a look on its own).

I personally love a classic Versace look such as these. They’ve been done, and done a lot. But I can’t fight a classic sexy siren gown like this. The decision to forego Taylor’s signature red lip, I think, is a smart one that prevents the look from going too overboard. In my opinion, the styling choices were either pile on the jewels or pile on the crimson lip. And Taylor/her team went for the former – something that’s atypical of her style. The mussed hair with the trailing pieces left out of their updo feel “roll out of bed” intimate and sensual and feels akin to the curly bangs from the reputation photoshoot. But I can’t help but think an uber sleek blowout could have been great here.

If indeed a nod to reputation, I’ve always seen that album as one of two diametrically opposed forces: the external perceptions of who you are vs the internal realizations of the life you’re quietly building. To use a dress with so many asymmetrical details (the bodice, the straps, and even in the movement of the button detailing literally splicing her in half) as an embodiment of that would be quite appropriate. It’s also a smart use of a brand’s signature design details to (possibly) use for your own means.

Not to mention this is precisely the kind of dress at least I would envision buying so someone else could take it off.

Versace ‘Embellished Harness Top’ (similar)

Beyond the eye-grabbing visuals of the video and some of the camp and cheek, there also feels like a lot to emotionally unpack here (in particular, this ‘Hourglass’ section and the ‘Lightbulb’ section). Taylor has spoken on numerous occasions about the passage of time and what it means for her and her place in the industry as a ‘geriatric’ pop star. One need not look further than “Nothing New” to see for how long she’s harboured deep thoughts and anxieties about her relevancy in the industry and longevity in her career.

Here, it’s fascinating to think not just from the ‘karmic’ perspective of time always coming back around (for her benefit) but also to think about time slipping away from her while also experiencing one of the greatest highs (yet) in her work.

The colours and new ombré boots? 13/10.

The exaggerated fringe-y tassels? Less so.

But these Versace bodysuits are truly a work of art – just wish we had stopped while we were ahead.

Versace ‘Crystal Butterflies Chain Necklace’ – $2,250.00

As is befitting of a new Lover bodysuit, Taylor accessorized with a new Versace necklace to match. This one, a co-design collaboration with Versace ambassador Dua Lipa.

I love the colours on this and its interplay with the purple embellishments on her Versace bodysuit. The butterfly motif is a classic nod to the heyday of Versace’s 90s supermodel era – while also referencing her recent #unbothered outing featuring an embellished butterfly on her jeans.
