Favourite Outfits of 2016: Taylor Swift Style

Athleisure — August 8

Surprise! Yes, guys. A brand new category to both the FOotY List and to the blog’s tag organization. You can now check the ’athleisure’ tag on TSS for Taylor’s stylish take on gymwear. Items in this tag will include sports bras, leggings, and sneakers. (Please note that this is a new tag and if there’s anything missing that should be there, don’t hesitate to let me know over on the questions blog @taylorswiftstylequestions). 

But back to the outfit at hand! You all know that anything all-black is immediately going to draw me in, but Taylor happened to have an exceptional gym-going candid run this year in actual athletic clothes (in comparison to the New York Fashion Takeover where her gym exits and entrances were marked by a perfectly made up face, co-ord sets and high heels). 

Many of her gym candids (as you’ll see in the next few hint hint) also saw some really nostalgic-inducing hair moments. Her sweet curls were just the cherry on top of a casually sexy off-the-shoulder top, subtly designed black leggings and a pop of colour via her sneakers that happened to match her pink lippie she threw on while heading into her workout.

Did anyone really imagine Taylor stepping up her fashion game in such a way? A bandeau, coat slung over her shoulders (I know that this is something you either love or hate with a passion), and a slit-up-to-there asymmetric black leather skirt. 

The smoky eye, shaggy bob, and spiky heels also serve to up the ante on this sexy, party-ready outfit.

This one is a wide jump outside of my normal love of black and chic neutrals and also a little left-of-center of normal for Taylor, too!

Taylor generally eschews most fashion trends and sticks to her own staunchly sweet-and-feminine look, but she took on the latest 70s trend by incorporating brown suede sandals, wild colours, oversized sunnies, and a deep berry lip into her outfit. I think it all came together so well!

This one is a wide jump outside of my normal love of black and chic neutrals and also a little left-of-center of normal for Taylor, too!

Originally, my only nitpick with this dress was that Taylor had worn her wavy hair in a low pony. Reworn out and loose, it just adds that much more to the beachy/boho vibe of this outfit. 

I love the whimsical nautical print and added warmth she introduced courtesy of the bag, sandals, and wash of bronzed eyeshadow.

Originally, my only nitpick with this dress was that Taylor had worn her wavy hair in a low pony. Reworn out and loose, it just adds that much more to the beachy/boho vibe of this outfit.

Favourite Outfits of 2016: Taylor Swift Style

Candid — August 24

There is definitely a part of me that feels like it has something to prove by including this ensemble. Looking back at a lot of my year-end lists, it’s obvious that I’m an eternal lover of all things black/grey/camel/white. And if you’ve followed TSS for long enough you know by now that if Taylor serves up an all-black outfit, killer ankle strap sandals, a cool bag, and a classic cat eyeliner I’m one happy fashion blogger. 

So, perhaps unconsciously, I’m putting this outfit here to prove that I’m not just all about chic neutrals and I can say that this is one of the rare instances of Taylor experimenting this year that I actually really couldn’t get out of my head.

I’m a sucker for a blonde wearing yellow and this outfit came during a phase when Taylor questionably and uncharacteristically wore a lot of camo and high-top sneakers so in my opinion this was a refreshing moment of her successfully mixing a girly/sporty/street vibe to her style. 

The only thing I’d subtract is that bag – which I’m still not a fan of.
