Favourite Outfits of 2016: Taylor Swift Style

Candid — August 24

There is definitely a part of me that feels like it has something to prove by including this ensemble. Looking back at a lot of my year-end lists, it’s obvious that I’m an eternal lover of all things black/grey/camel/white. And if you’ve followed TSS for long enough you know by now that if Taylor serves up an all-black outfit, killer ankle strap sandals, a cool bag, and a classic cat eyeliner I’m one happy fashion blogger.

So, perhaps unconsciously, I’m putting this outfit here to prove that I’m not just all about chic neutrals and I can say that this is one of the rare instances of Taylor experimenting this year that I actually really couldn’t get out of my head.

I’m a sucker for a blonde wearing yellow and this outfit came during a phase when Taylor questionably and uncharacteristically wore a lot of camo and high-top sneakers so in my opinion this was a refreshing moment of her successfully mixing a girly/sporty/street vibe to her style.

The only thing I’d subtract is that bag – which I’m still not a fan of.

Do I know that this outfit technically should belong in the Events category because she’s en route to the 2016 Met Gala in this get-up? Sure.

Am I still going to divide it into the Candid category so that I can ignore the unsatisfactory LV dress I know is hiding underneath in order to focus on how this outfit with the coat is 100x more fierce? You bet.

Her bleached hair works in full force with this outfit, vamped up further by her dark gothic lip and seriously unreal knee-high criss-cross sandals.

Yeah, guys. February was a good month.

This white hot chic look had a solidified spot on my list the second she stepped out. This look also set off a chain event of a lot of Isabel Marant candids, as only a few days before Taylor had visited the designer’s L.A. studio.

Just another one of those outfits that I knew as soon as I saw it would be on my year-end list. Despite its short-lived status — and my continual hopes that this aspect of Taylor’s style will make a comeback someday as she enters her late 20s (don’t even get me started on that, by the way) — I still have so much love for Taylor’s chic NYC moments from February.

So much so, that on this day she stepped out in TWO FOotY List-worthy outfits. Switching from all white during the day, Taylor stepped into a sleek, plunging neck black jumpsuit and a gorgeous wool coat.

If I had to nitpick, I’d make the pumps higher (and add a little bit more sex appeal to the outfit) but the colour palette, muted makeup, amazing outerwear, and staple black leather bag are too much to deny its place in the year-end list.

Sure, I only pegged the Choos she’s wearing in this outfit but that doesn’t mean that just because all of the other beyond-chic pieces escaped me that it’s not going to be included in my year-end list.

This outfit came courtesy of a string of outfits when she was hitting the streets of New York in February where I had allowed myself to believe that this would be the look of the as-of-yet happened TS6 era.

This “Taylena” aesthetic (similar to the chic tailored neutrals and slip dresses that dominated Selena Gomez’s Revival promo style) lasted only as long as the month did, sadly. But I’ve still got hopes that when TS6 does come around, this style will see a revival. (See what I did there?).

A candid that quietly slipped under the radar at the very beginning of the year (I’m going in chronological order, folks).

This is an outfit I would personally wear myself and I love the chic colour palette of all black and a soft cool-toned grey.

If you have a long memory (or have been kicking around TSS for quite some time) this one might remind you of an updated version of this ballerina-esque post-gym similar back in 2014!
